Hello,

My name is Shannon Carr and I’m the Band Director for Roanoke Catholic School Bands. I believe being in a band is one of the most rewarding and life changing experiences a student can have. 

I grew up surrounded by music and bands. My father was an incredible band director for over 34 years and to this day when I listen to recordings of his bands, I’m amazed at the energy and musicality his students exhibited. Most of our family vacations were band trips and I spent many summers traveling with my father to DCI shows in Allentown, PA and towns all across New Jersey. 

I’m originally from Roanoke where I graduated from Cave Spring High School. During the summer of my sophomore year,  I marched with Northstar Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduating from high school, I moved to California to march with the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps – 1985, 1986, and 1987. I graduated from the University of Florida in 1993 with a BME and my first teaching job was at Johnson Jr. High School in Melbourne, FL. I was fortunate to teach in Brevard County. I was surrounded by excellent mentors, supportive friends, and the best band parents one could wish for. 

In 2000, I made a career change from teaching music to web application development. In 2003,  I partnered with Patrick Maddox to create SiteVision, Inc. a web application development and hosting company. We’ve had tremendous and continued success at SiteVision, however, the desire to teach and to try and recreate what was started at Johnson never left me. With my recent move back to Roanoke, I was considering starting a homeschool band program. When the opportunity to teach at Roanoke Catholic came along, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to once again be a part of a band family.

There really is something special about being part of a successful band program. You develop friendships and memories that last a lifetime, not to mention the goosebumps!
